Favourite artists
Ilse DeLange Eva Cassidy Katie Melua The Corrs

I will tell you a little bit here about my favourite artists and music. I have to say that this list gets longer and longer, but I will try to keep within bounds!

I will start with my most favourite artist and the rest I just jot down whenever I think of them, I'll put links to their websites (if they have got one) on here and also in my 'links' corner, but from here it is much easier to reach. Hopefully you will check them out, you might enjoy their music!

Ilse DeLange

Ilse in 1998/1999 Ilse in 2003

Ilse was the first artist I really became a fan of and the fandom has stayed ever since. She was just 19/20 when she made her first album, World of Hurt, but she certainly deserved all the praise she received! Her first album sold in excess of 45.000 pieces...the rest of her albums followed suit.

In total she has made 5 albums (of which one was a cover album of John Hiat tracks), and even more singles, and her music style moved so much that you can't fit her into one particular corner anymore. Her first album was more country than anything else, but with some bluess woven into it too. Her later albums moved to pop/rock but also still with this jazz/blues/country feeling.

Let's just say that it's basically all over the place. Her voice is brilliant though, whatever way her music goes! Even when she was 19 she sang with the voice of a much older person, it seemed like. A young person with an old soul...and you could (and can) clearly hear that!

I still like the songs from her first album best, but that's your own choice, obviously. Especially when you are in love then the first album is great, with numbers like: 'What does your heart say now?' (very recognisable for me and Angela) and 'Flying Blind'. You certainly have to buy it!

Eva Cassidy

Eva Cassidy

Another one of my favourite singers is Eva Cassidy. This is, unfortunately, a tragic story. When only a handful of people had heard her music and she had only played in bars and clubs around where she lived she died in 1996 age just 33. She died of bone cancer after a 3 month fight.

Only after her death the world discovered her. Mostly because of a video which had been shot in Blues Alley when Eva had been playing there. This amateur video was showed on Top Of The Pops in the UK and immediately the world went crazy about her. Especially, obviously, after hearing her tragic story. Because in Eva we had lost a beautiful voice, but not only that, she was a gifted person, her drawings and works of art are just as beautiful as her songs!

Eva Cassidy

After her dead a lot of albums have been released, all made from tape recordings that were never really used. Only after her dead people (including me) discovered her and that's a real shame! She had such a voice! Her repertoir is mostly blues/jazz and her voice is unforgettable.

I especially like: "Over the Rainbow" but most of her other songs are wonderful too! Check her out and buy her albums, unfortunately she isn't here to witness her own succes anymore, but her music is still breathtaking!

Katie Melua

Katie Melua Katie Melua

I heard Katie Melua at first when she was played at BBC Radio 2, in the Terry Wogan show. Her voice is just...I don't know what to call it; haunting, mysterious, wonderful, are some words to describe it! She is just 19 years old and shot to stardom, but not too many people outside of the UK have heared about her...

Unfortunately I don't know a lot more about her just that she is beautiful and young, basically! Her album is called: "Call off the search" and consists of 12 songs. Especially: "Call off the search" and "Crawling up a hill" are my favourites, but I basically like the whole album! Go on and buy it! Or at least check out her webpage!

The Corrs

The Corrs

I love the "The Corrs" music, because it sounds a bit Irish, a bit pop, a bit contemporary, but always beautiful!

As you had probably already guessed there is a reason that they are called the way they are! They are a family band: one brother and three sisters...playing together, having fun and making marvelous music. I haven't seen them in concert myself, but I can tell you, from the music video's, that they are great!

The bandmembers are:

Jim Corr (born 1964) who plays keyboard and guitar.
Sharon Corr (born 1970) who plays the violin beautifully and does vocals.
Caroline Corr (born 1973) who plays drums, Bodhran and Piano and does vocals.
Andrea Corr (born 1974) who does lead vocals and plays tin whistle.

The girls are all gorgeous (sorry Jim, but I'm biased!) and play and sing wonderfully! I hope that by including the photo's you will start getting interested and you will check them out!
